Biography

  • Khaya Maloney is the founder/owner of Afrileap, an agri-tech startup that uses controlled environment agriculture to grow hops hydroponically, for supply to the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and microbrewery industries.
  • He holds a diploma in architectural technology from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology as well as a Civil Engineering Degree from the University of South Africa.
  • Khaya boasts a blockchain architecture design diploma with NPTEL in association with IBM hyper ledger, and holds a certificate in digital assets form the University of Nicosia with experience as a blockchain solutions architect consultant in South Africa for global companies. He has been the strategic adviser for various blockchain and fin-tech projects and companies.
  • Khaya is winner of the 2019 UN SEED Indalo for Climate Action award
  • A WIBC Urban Agriculture Initiative graduate and member of the Beer association of South Africa
  • Selected as the SA Start up at Food and Agriculture UN Food systems summit 2022 in Italy
  • Partnered with the Department of Science and Technology & Innovation for the development and support for the R&D initiative in hydroponic hop growing 2023
